About high power supplies |
These are compact high density, high power supplies
and power supply sub-assemblies, made for integration
into your technically advanced product. One of the
most difficult parts of a power supply over 1kW is
to design a reliable PFC front-end (Power Factor
Correction). We have proven board sets with demonstrated
MTBF of 500,000 to > 1 million hours. Let our
designers assist you with the integration of our
high performance isolated or non-isolated PFC bulk
converters into your design. We can accommodate special
input power cycling requirements and unusual dynamic
load profiles.
We can provide your system with a low voltage bus
(12 to 56VDC) for RF power modules, battery charging,
telecom back planes, house keeping or high voltage
bus (100 to 400VDC) for motor controllers, UPS battery
charging, or the bus voltage before the high voltage
step-up circuit to power RF or X-ray tubes.
Other features include: paralleling supplies to 10’s
of kilowatts of output, hot plug modules, N+1 redundancy,
full universal input range, low ripple & noise,
wide operating temperature range, and standard compact
case sizes of 5 x 3RU, 5 x 2RU and 5 x 1 RU. Supplies
and board sets are designed to meet all international
safety & EMI standards. |

Intelligent power supplies should be considered |
Some alternative energy applications have a variable
input source, like wind turbines, photovoltaic solar
cells, or batteries. The case for using these alternative
sources is diminished by any reduction in system efficiency.
Most power supplies operating off a variable input
have extremely poor efficiency since they go into current
limit mode when the available power exceeds the load
requested. Unless the load is reduced, the power supply
will continue to protect itself reducing the system
efficiency.
Intelligent power supplies are designed to interface
with these renewable DC sources. They have a built-in
microcomputer controller, which elegantly solves efficiency
issues with variable input by using a feature called
Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT).
MPPT constantly monitors the input source and dynamically
delivers the maximum power available to the load, regardless
of the actual load demanded. Firmware works throughout
the entire operating range of the power supply, from
minimum output to the full rating. The power supply
will take power from an unregulated, wide-ranging input
voltage and current source. As power is delivered,
the power supply efficiency climbs quickly to 95%.
The designer can fully take advantage of the Intelligent
Power supplies embedded application to provide full
profile management, allowing you to easily tailor the
supply to a specific application.
Other applications that can take advantage of MPPT
are large DC power plant battery charging. When a MPPT
scheme is used, the input power for the battery takes
precedence over the main power supply output, hence
at very low available power levels the input power
to the battery is maximized while the main output is
shut down.
Only after the available power exceeds the power demanded
by the battery charger is the Main Output enabled and
MPPT applied to the Main Output. |

Intelligent Controller |
Our Intelligent Controller uses a built-in Micro-Controller
Chip and is used with our Intelligent Power System.
This Controller embedded as part of the individual
power shelves and is capable of controlling and monitoring
up to six rectifiers in a 3U-23” standard shelf. This
can also be designed into a power supply or battery
charger, making it a standalone Intelligent Power Supply
or an Intelligent Battery Charger.
This allows users to remotely configure, control and
monitor all parameters of the power and battery back-up
system via RS232 or by other standard communication
protocols. Multiple shelves with built-in controllers
can be paralleled for high-power applications. In multiple
configurations, the controller is set up in an active
and passive scheme to provide full system and battery
control and monitoring.
Easy to use commands are implemented to configure
the system controls and alarms. Using the command editor,
the user can program parameters such as battery low
voltage disconnect, battery float voltage temperature
compensation, battery charge current and equalize battery.
Additionally, the use can remotely query the status
of the rectifier system. All alarms are programmable
as minor or major alarms. |
